Guadalajara

February 7, 2018

I’ve met some lovely people over the years who have described Guadalajara with such lovely phrases as “The Boston of Mexico”.  It has been on my list for a while because I’ve been to the state of Jalisco many times but only to Puerto Vallarta.  As the capital of the state, I figured Guadalajara would be a good mix of Mexican urban life, architecture, history and food.  It ends up that Guadalajara is not that simple.  It’s public transportation infrastructure is mostly based on highways and the newly implemented, but not highly functional, bike share system.  There is a small metro, but it does not touch the Bario Americana or the trendy Avenida Chapultepec, where I was staying…

Michoacan

February 5, 2018

I gave myself three nights to experience the state of Michoacan.  I didn’t really know anything about it except that capital is called Morelia and that there are some day trips from Morelia.  How did I even learn that much, you ask?  My roommate in Merida was a non-English speaking 21 year old from Morelia.  I asked him, in Spanish, where he was from and I did not understand his response.  He taught me that Michoacan is a state close to Mexico City.  Since then, this place has been on my radar, and apparently, no one elses (in the backpacking world).

Oaxaca

January 30, 2018

I've known that Oaxaca City would be the beginning of another phase of my journey.  Zero backpackers had mentioned Oaxaca City on their itinerary.  Yes, the beaches of Oaxaca, specifically Puerto Escondido and Mazunte, would be on the list but no one seemed to have Oaxaca City on their list.  Because my next step after would be Zipolite, also not on the radar, I started to accept that maybe I was no longer part of the backpacker circuit and I would start making friends in different ways (not just in the hostel)…

The Road To San Cristobal De Las Casas

January 28, 2018

During my first 2 weeks of travel, I met more people who told me that I absolutely must visit Chiapas, especially San Cristóbal De Las Casas and Palenque, than I can possibly remember.  I met two people who each fell in love during their stay in San Cristóbal.  They then told me that's why I absolutely had to go.  Everyone falls in love there…

Palenque

January 26, 2018

This would be the beginning of many moments travelers telling me that I absolutely must go to Palenque.  Palenque is located in the Mexican state of Chiapas.  It is a jungle city nestled in the mountains. It is most famous for its archaeological zone that is considered one of the most astounding sites to have been discovered. This place was hyped like crazy...

What the fuck? It took all of this for Congress to step up??? As in they could have started working towards solutions years ago?? And this isn’t some local or state-level only situation? Our politicians SUCK.

This is what I look like today in portrait mode. 🤩 Life in Vienna was rough for the first 3 months. The next 2 months got better. Now things are legitimately very good. This is the challenge I wanted and whelp, I got it!

Thank you to everyone sup
Arrived in Novi Sad, Serbia #travel
Making my way to Belgrade via Szeged, Hungary. The first building is the opera house from the end of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. #travel
A short Sunday trip to a forest 20 minutes north of Vienna, along one of the Danube offshoots.
Architectural highlights of Vienna, taken over the last few weeks.
20 minutes north of Vienna is the charming town of Klosterneuburg. Easy train trip with beautiful hiking and good Schweinrostbraten.
Was here a few weeks ago. This is not the view from the city center but from a bridge about a 15 walk from the center.
Lunch view. The building in the foreground was rebuilt by the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1930s. #history #archaeology #athens #greece
