Sydney Bondi-Cogee Coastal Walk

The famous Bondi Beach.

Bondi Beach is famous for its super hot, sexy surfer people.  Yes, I did see quite a few of them.  A visit to Bondi Beach was definitely on the list but it was the entire coastal walk from Bondi to Cogee that really got me.  The coastal walk came recommended by an Australian family that I had met in Vanuatu.  I researched that I would be able to do the whole walk in four hours.  It sounded like the perfect early afternoon activity.  The start of the walk can be reached by a 30 minute bus ride from the center of Sydney.

More Bondi.

As you get a closer look at the photos below, remind yourself that this is 30 minutes outside of the city center.  Can you imagine the environmental impact an urban area has on its natural coastline?  You'd image that for an urban center like Sydney, the beaches would be polluted and the shore line would be eroded.  This is not the case.  Sydney has made enormous efforts to preserve the quality of its urban beaches.  The water is all different shades of blue.  The waves were magnificent.  The weather was a tad too chilly for me to want to go swimming as it was the start of the fall season in Sydney.  I cannot imagine how awesome summer is in Sydney.

On another note, I was in Sydney after seeing some of the most beautiful beaches in the world in Samoa and Vanuatu (and Fiji?).  When I arrived at the coastal walk and I saw the quality of the beaches, I understood why some of the Australian travelers I met were not as impressed as I was.  They have world class beaches at their doorstep.  What an amazing gift.
